10 Reasons Clean Beauty is Important
When you think of healthy living, the things that often pop into your mind are diet, food, and exercise. However, did you know that what we put ON our bodies is just as important what we put IN our bodies? Yep, it’s true! It’s not just about what you eat. Here are 10 reasons why toxic free skincare and beauty products are very important to our overall health.
1. Your skin is your largest organ
I know it’s not normally what comes to mind when you think of organs. We typically think heart, kidneys, and lungs, but skin doesn’t often come to mind. But at 8 pounds per adult and around 22 square feet, it is indeed your largest organ. So what you put on it is important. Are you slathering chemicals on yours each morning, or are you covering it with ingredients that are healthy for you?
2. What’s on your skin ends up inside your body
This might seem obvious, but at the same time it’s an important point that is often ignored. This is a huge reason why changing to a clean beauty routine is so important. What you put on you skin ends up in your body. Can you eat your lotion or your deodorant? I’m not saying you should, but is it safe enough to? Give that some thought!
3. What’s inside your body can affect your health
I’ve often said that if you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your body. I say this because anything that goes on your skin ends up inside your body. If your makeup or moisturizer is so full of chemicals that it isn’t safe to eat, then it’s also a very bad idea to put it on your skin. What you have inside your body, whether it’s from the food you eat or the products you put on our skin, can drastically affect your health.
4. Small exposure to chemicals over time becomes an issue
Is it a big deal if you put on eye shadow full of chemicals today? Probably not. But think about all the ways you are bombarding your body with small amounts of chemicals day in and day out. From lotion to shampoo to deodorant and foundation, you are continually putting small amounts of chemicals into your body that are harmful and that your body was never meant to have to deal with.
5. Fragrance is very toxic
When I do consultations with clients, synthetic fragrances are one of the first things we work on getting out of their homes. It comes in laundry detergent, candles, makeup, shampoo, and a handful of other products all throughout the home. By going the route of toxic free personal care items, you are avoiding fragrance which is even known to cause cancer. Let’s get that smelly stuff out of our homes and replace it with the safer fragrance free or high quality essential oil alternatives.
6. Clean beauty is better
It’s better for you and it’s better for the environment making it a win-win! It does take time to find clean beauty products that you like and work for you, but I promise it’s worth the time and effort it takes. It will help keep your skin and body healthier while at the same time it is more eco-friendly.
7. Clean beauty doesn’t have to be expensive
Yes, there are a lot of clean beauty brands out there that are pricey. A lot of them are amazing, but you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get good, safe products. You can actually make your own for very cheap. Just like any food recipe, it can take time to find a recipe that you like but you’d be amazed how easy it is to make your own deodorant, tooth powder, or even body butter.
8. Toxic free beauty products work
Sometimes we are so used to our current products that we are afraid the natural versions just won’t measure up. In some cases that is true, but oftentimes it turns out to be false. Honestly, the only beauty product that I’ve not been able to find a natural replacement for is hairspray. So for now, I just don’t use any. But every other personal care product that I’ve switched to a clean version, I’ve actually been happier with the clean product than the toxic alternative I used to have.
9. Clean beauty ingredients are just that… clean!
Like I said before, clean beauty products should be edible. They should be so safe that it’s no problem for you to take a bite. Now, I don’t do that because I’m pretty sure my deodorant would taste gross, but the truth is, it’s so safe I really could take a bite. Every single ingredient in your beauty skincare routine should be clean and safe enough to eat. That’s when you know you really are on to something good!
10. The clean beauty movement is here to stay
There’s a reason that organic, all natural brands are popping up all over the place. People are beginning to see and feel the difference that clean beauty skincare and personal care products can make in their health. So jump on the train and try out some new products!
