My Story

I Became Curious

It all began in college when I was 21 and began to entertain the idea that the “organic” movement might actually be something worth learning about. I ended up diving headfirst into the world of healthy living. It started with my food by changing from conventionally grown to certified organic, but I didn’t stop there. I began to question other aspects of my life like, “What’s in my shampoo?” and “Why is this shower cleaner making it hard to breath when I’m cleaning?”

I wasn’t scared. I was curious.I began asking, “What’s in this? How was it made?”

How I became interested in homesteading...

Because I had been raised on a small farm, I naturally became interested in the homesteading side of things. I wanted to take everything back to the source and understand where all my food and products came from. While I began the journey of researching items in my home and finding healthy alternatives, I became interested in a self-sustaining lifestyle. I began to learn about gardening, and I dreamed of having chickens one day.

It took six years from the day I dreamed of having chickens to it becoming a reality, but one thing I’ve learned on this health journey is that slow is fast. It’s the small, steady, and consistent changes each month that make a huge difference over time.

Slow is Fast

TAKE SMALL STEPS EACH DAY, MONTH, AND YEAR

Each year I’ve learned more and more about homesteading and clean living. On a monthly basis I have changed out a few things in my home to create a healthy environment for my family. Each year I’ve added on a new aspect of homesteading. We now have a milk cow, chickens for eggs, chickens for meat, bees, and a giant garden where we grow almost all the produce we need.

THE MOMENT I BEGAN TO ASK QUESTIONS

changed everything

They say ignorance is bliss, but it’s really not. When you start to question and learn, you start to feel empowered. As I started questioning everything in my home, I realized I could change it. I could create a home that I wanted to live in. I could create a home that I wanted to raise a healthy family in. It was up to me, and I was so excited to dive in!

FINDING THE ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS LED ME ON A JOURNEY

I felt empowered. I knew there was a lot of change I wanted to make, but I felt ready to tackle it. I knew it would take time, research, and money, but I was ready. I knew that steady change meant lasting change, so I hopped on the road to a healthy home, and I haven't looked back.
